A Tribute to Peacekeeping
A Tribute to Peacekeeping was a concert produced by Culture Project in partnership with the United Nations, held on October 23, 2009, at the UN General Assembly Hall to commemorate the 64th anniversary of the UN Charter. The event honored UN peacekeepers and highlighted the power of culture in promoting diplomacy and global unity.
Directed by Fisher Stevens with music direction by Nile Rodgers, the evening featured performances by Roberta Flack, Angelique Kidjo, Lang Lang, Aterciopelados, Harry Belafonte and others, along with remarks from Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.
The night concluded with the first live performance of “The Price of Silence,” a global anthem for human rights, uniting musicians and audiences in a call for peace and justice.

Breaking the Silence, Beating the Drum was a powerful concert produced by Culture Project in partnership with the United Nations, held on March 25, 2009 at the UN General Assembly Hall. Commemorating the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, the event highlighted the role of the arts in promoting peace, resilience, and social change.
Directed by Kenny Leon with music by Nile Rodgers, the evening featured performances by Akon, Whoopi Goldberg, Sarah Jones, Blind Boys of Alabama, and others. A standout moment was the debut of “Blood Into Gold,” a song by Akon and Peter Buffett written for the event to support anti-slavery efforts.
